Shirt Tales - Taking care of the new running track takes care of personnel Published April 17, 2007 By Master Sgt. Thomas Raupach 61st Medical Group LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE -- "Give it up" for our very own Civil Engineering and Logistics Squadron in the completion of our new running track. The track will certainly serve the military community well. Not only does it look great, but the added cushion makes running a little more enjoyable for us slightly older folks. Thanks for looking out for us. The running track will serve us for a long time - provided it is not misused. The following 'Rules of Engagement' are for the good of the track and the personnel using it. The track is open 7 days a week and its hours nearly mirror the hours of the Fitness Center. It is reserved for active duty military and WARFIT activities from 6-10 a.m. and 2-5 p.m. The track is open to the base population from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. WARFIT activities and testing will always take precedence. To make your reservation for a WARFIT test or to schedule a unit WARFIT PT session, call the Fitness Center at 310-653-6771. To ensure the rubberized material stands the test of time, absolutely no street shoes at any time are allowed. This includes boots, high heels and dress shoes. Hard soles will destroy the surface. The track was designed for exercise purposes only; it's not a sidewalk. It's everyone's responsibility to ensure people are doing the right thing, so if you see any violators, say something! Other important restrictions will be enforced to prolong the life of the track. All wheeled vehicles such as bicycles, rollerblades, baby strollers, electric vehicles, forklifts and skateboards are prohibited on the running track. Also prohibited are pets, chewing gum and smoking. After all, it is a place of fitness! Lastly, the track runs counter-clockwise at all times. The 61 CELS has done an outstanding job to ensure military personnel have all the resources available to them to stay fit. Increased fitness equates to mission readiness and with today's operational tempo at an all-time high, readiness is essential. Let's do our part to ensure this track stays open and looking great.
