Environmental Sustainability Team Award nomination

The 61st Civil Engineer and Logistics Squadron at Los Angeles Air Force Base is host to the best Environmental Sustainability team in the U.S. Air Force. The team is responsible for the installation's environmental compliance, pollution prevention, environmental restoration, and conservation.

Specifically, 61 CELS maintains compliance with regulations pertaining to air quality, water quality, storm water, and hazardous materials and waste. Additionally, the team manages compliance with regulations for lead and asbestos abatement and storage tank management, and adherence to National Environmental Protection Act requirements.

Furthermore, 61 CELS manages Los Angeles AFB's solid waste, natural and cultural resources, recycling, and Rideshare programs, and pursues opportunities to reduce the installation's energy and water consumption demands. Finally, the Environmental Sustainability team is the installation's focal point for the Environmental Management System and is charged with promoting sustainability, green procurement, and progress toward Executive Order goals through installation-wide education, training, and process improvement.

MHO is located about 20 miles south of LA AFB in San Pedro and consists of housing at Fort MacArthur, Pacific Heights and Pacific Crest neighborhoods. This is one of the first stops you make, after you check in to the installation. MHO provides personalized assistance, for Accompanied or Unaccompanied Active Duty Service Members, with housing options available to them.

Fort MacArthur Housing
Housing for Los Angeles AFB is located at Fort MacArthur, about 20 miles south of the main base in El Segundo. It is privatized and operated by Winn Company: Tierra Vista Communities (888) 658-4630, which offers 2-4 bedroom units based on rank and family size.

Privatized Housing Resident Advocate
In 2019, Congress held all military services accountable for the ineffective resolution of health, safety and security issues in Privatized Housing. Congress passed specific requirements that established the Resident Advocate and Resident Council in the FY20 NDAA, in efforts to correct this dangerous trend. Resident Advocates assists ADSM and their Families with dispute resolution and can work with both the Privatized Housing Partner and the military chain of command to ensure concerns are elevated to the appropriate levels. Although the MHO is typically the first point of contact for housing, members may seek the assistance of the Resident Advocate at any time.
