C/NOFS
A Lockheed L-1011 carrying the Communication/Navigation Outage Forecasting System (C/NOFS) satellite takes off from Kwajalein Atoll, April 16. After reaching optimal launch altitude, an Orbital Sciences Pegasus Air Launch System carrying the satellite was dropped from the plane’s underbelly. The mission of C/NOFS is to forecast scintillation-caused communication outages from satellites to ground assets. This forecast will give the warfighter a better understanding of their satellite communications environment - allowing them to plan operations accordingly.
