Military Honored at Torrance's Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration Published May 18, 2015 LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE, Calif -- In its 56th year, the Torrance Armed Forces Day celebration showcased and honored the U.S. military with exhibits and a parade, May 15-18. The Space and Missile Systems Center and the Air Force were well represented during the weekend. The celebration kicked off May 15 with exhibits and static displays at Del Amo Mall. The Air Force's Band of the Golden West from Travis AFB, Calif., performed a concert on Friday night and marched in the Saturday parade. On Saturday, the day began with morning revelry at the mall, followed by the parade in the afternoon. Lieutenant General Sam Greaves, SMC commander; a LAAFB marching unit; Air Force Recruiting Mini Jet Team and the San Pedro High School's JROTC represented the Air Force in the city's annual parade which featured flyovers, marching bands, veteran's groups, tanks and other military vehicles. During the parade, delayed entry recruits from each of the services were sworn in. The Torrance Armed Forces Day celebration is one of eight Armed Forces Day celebrations sanctioned by DoD. This year's honored service was the U.S. Coast Guard. An estimated 60,000 people attended the parade.
