Outdoor Adventures, a part of Outdoor Recreation, has announced three adventures for July.

The first activity is a one-day white water rafting experience on the Kern River, a river-rafter's jewel located in Southern California in the heart of Sequoia National Forest near Bakersfield. The river features over 60 miles of commercially run white water with sections ranging from mild wave trains to wild roller coasters.  Scheduled for Saturday, July 7, the trip will start at 5:30 a.m. with a pick-up of participants from Fort MacArthur. The group will then proceed to the base where a second pick-up will be made around 6 a.m. Participants will then begin the three-hour drive to the starting point on the Kern River. Rafters must weigh at least 90 pounds and be 14 years of age or older. The cost of $75 includes transportation, guided trip on the river, life jacket, helmet rentals and lunch with drinks. Items that participants should bring with them will be discussed when reservations are made. Reservation deadline is June 30.

The second adventure for the month is a one-day hike up Mt. Baldy scheduled for Saturday, July 14. This experience will offer breath-taking views as well as the opportunity to be at the highest point in Los Angeles. It must be pointed out that this is a seven-hour, strenuous 11.25-mile round trip hike with a 4,300-foot elevation gain.  Transportation will leave Fort MacArthur at 5:30 a.m. and then the base at 6 a.m. The cost of $15 includes transportation and the services of a guide. Food and water are not included. Return will be around 7 p.m.  Registration deadline is July 6.

A third adventure will be a repeat of the first one for the month. A return to white water rafting on the Kern River is scheduled for Saturday, July 21.  With the exception of a new date, all times and details are the same as for the first trip. Sign-up deadline is July 13.

Sign-ups for any of these adventures can be made by calling Autumn at (310) 653-8260 or Outdoor Recreation at (310) 653-6852 or 6853.
