SMC Dining Out Tickets on Sale

The annual SMC Dining will be held this year at the Long Beach Westin, Oct. 20. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner starting at 7 p.m. Retired General Thomas Moorman Jr., a former Air Force Vice Chief of Staff, is the keynote speaker. Entertainment will be provided by the Band of the Southwest Jazz Ensemble. Tickets went on sale Sept. 20 and cost $25 to $70 depending on rank. They are available for purchase from your unit ticket representative. 

Rocking Climbing Trip Planned

The next rocking climbing trip to Joshua Tree National Park will be held Oct. 13. It costs $35 including transportation, instruction and required climbing gear (harness, helmet, top-rope supplies). Rock shoes are not provided. On Wednesday, Oct 10 a pre-trip tutorial is required for all new rock climbing participants starting at 6 p.m. Call Autumn Baldwin (310)653-8260 or the Outdoor Recreation Office (310)653-6852 for information or to sign up.

Base Yard Sale Coming

The base yard sale is a good opportunity to get rid of your excess household goods. The next yard sale will be held Oct. 13 and takes place on the Fort MacArthur parade grounds, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All military ID card holders are welcome to participate. The cost for a sales table is $10 per family with this money going to the Los Angeles Air Force Spouses' Club Scholarship Fund. Swimming Pool Fall Hours

The base swimming pool, located on Fort MacArthur, is still open. Admission is now free. Hours of operation are Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The facility is closed Mondays through Fridays.

Volunteers Wanted for Education Conference

LAAFB is hosting the El Segundo Education Conference Oct. 29 in the Gordon Conference Center from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Approximately 250 to 300 teachers and other school administration officials will be attending this event. Military members, preferably with school-aged children, are wanted to sit at each of the 25 tables. Need an incentive to volunteer? How about a free lunch? LAAFB Toastmasters Club Meetings Held

The club meets every Wednesday, noon to 1 p.m. That's closer than "freeway close," and you can bring your lunch. We still have room for a few more success-oriented individuals. Is that you? Fort Mac Community Center Closed

The Community Center was closed on Sunday, Sept. 2 in order to conduct major renovations. It will reopen on Nov. 12. During the upgrades there will be no access to the facility with the exception of selected scheduled events. The computer room and the ticket window will be closed. Tickets may still be purchased at the El Segundo Club location.

Airman's Attic Now Open

The Attic is located in Bldg. 37 on Fort MacArthur. New operating hours are Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. There are no weekend hours. For more information, call (310) 653-6767 or (310) 221-0909.

Local School Information Available on Base

Los Angeles County is composed of the City of Los Angeles plus 89 communities and more than 80 school districts The Airman & Family Readiness Center can assist you with enrollment procedures, information about magnet schools, South Bay school districts, home schooling resources and private schools. A&FRC also handles all inter- and intra- district transfer for military children.

Airman & Family Readiness Center Holds Classes

Managing Your Move, Oct. 11, 8:30 to 10 a.m.
For any PCS move, planning is crucial to your sanity. Briefings will be provided by the Clinic, Traffic Management, Legal, and Military Finance. Civilians welcome.

Four Lenses: Know Your Boss, Oct. 15, 8 to 11:30 a.m.
This three and half hour workshop focuses on temperament intelligence using the Four Lenses method -knowledge and application in personality temperament. This methodology can become a power skill for understanding and appreciating others in many settings including employee's performances, goal setting, team/project management, leadership and personal relationships.

Group Pre-Separation Class, Oct. 15 1 to 2 p.m.
This class is mandatory for all personnel retiring/separating from the military. It should be taken at least 90 days before your date of retiring/separating or signing up for the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Class.

Transition Assistance Program, Oct. 16-19, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is dedicated to equipping separating and retiring military personnel for reentry to private sector. The program interfaces with State of California, Department of Veterans Affairs and Disabled American Veterans. Bring your medical records. Dress: Casual Business.

Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month, themed "Hispanic Americans: Making a Positive Impact on American Society," will be celebrated Oct. 18 in the Paulikas Mall at 11 a.m. Belinda Guadarrama, president and CEO of GC Micro, will be the guest speaker. Ticket Office Relocated

Discounted tickets are now on sale for Knott's Berry Farm and Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween events. Tickets for various local attractions and movie theaters are also for sale at discounted prices. Effective June 11, the Ticket Office relocated to the cashier's office in The Club (Bldg. 270). Outdoor Recreation is still the place to go to rent equipment and sign up for adventure trips; however, discount tickets are no longer sold at Outdoor Adventures.
