Commissary Holiday Hours Announced

The LAAFB Commissary has announced special holiday hours. The commissary is usually closed on Mondays but will be open on Christmas and New Year's eves from 9 a.m. to 4p.m. It will be closed on Christmas and News Years Day, which fall on Tuesdays this year.

Holiday Closures

The 61 MSS Military Personnel Flight (MPF) will close at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 14 for an official squadron function. The office will reopen on Dec. 17. All base offices will be closed Dec. 24 and 25, and Jan. 1 in conjunction with the Christmas and New Year's Federal holidays. Many offices will be closed on Dec. 31 so call before you come out to the base. The Commissary and BX have special holiday hours. Click here for store hours.

Two Lake Tahoe Ski Trip Planned in January

Ski Lake Tahoe and stay in Reno, the weekends of Jan. 11 and 25. The trips cost $160 and include transportation, hotel (double occupancy), and snowboard rental. The bus leaves LAAFB at 7 a.m. on Friday and returns Sunday night. Military lift tickets are free. Non-active duty must purchase tickets on the mountain. Sign up fast while room is still available. HAWC Offers Healthy Habits Classes

The season of temptations is upon us! If you're like most people, this festive time of year causes you to tip the scales come January. To help you offset the rising needle on the scale, the Health and Wellness Center (HAWC) will be offering the "Healthy Habits for Life" program in January. This class series will run for 7 consecutive Tuesday's from noon to 1 p.m., starting on Jan 8. Fight back against the holiday weight gain of 2007 - sign up now for this program which is open to all military active duty, beneficiaries, retirees and DoD civilians. Holiday Gift and Food Drives Held

The 2007 Holiday Food and Gift Drive will take place Monday, Dec. 3 through Friday, Dec. 21. This year the drive will benefit Children's Hospital Los Angeles, The Salvation Army, the Masada Homes and Trinity Children's Foundation foster care facilities, Portals, the Make-A-Wish Program, and the children of active duty personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Donation bins will be located at Aerospace and on the Los Angeles AFB. Donations of nonperishable food and gifts are needed. Additionally, the Angel Tree Program provides a variety of toys and clothing for children during the holidays. Each agency will have a distinct Angel Tag attached to a tree with a child's name, gender, and gift requests from the child. Gifts or gift cards contributing to the request are welcome. Angel Trees will be placed in the A2 Credit Union, the A3 and D8 Cafeterias, and LAAFB buildings 270, 271, and Base Clinic. The annual Holiday Food and Gift Drive is sponsored by The Aerospace Corporation and the Space and Missile Systems Center. For more information, call Xavier Galindo at (310)336-1813.

Additionally the GPS Wing is sponsoring a toy drive benefiting Toys for Tots. Toys can be dropped off in bins located in Bldg. 271 and the BX.


LAAFB Toastmasters Club Meetings Held

The club meets every Wednesday, noon to 1 p.m. Meetings are held in Bldg. 271, 3rd Floor, Rm. B3-642. For more information, call Cleve Carter (310) 416-9898 Ext 138."


Airman's Attic Now Open

The Attic is located in Bldg. 37 on Fort MacArthur. New operating hours are Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. There are no weekend hours. For more information, call (310) 653-6767 or (310) 221-0909.

Local School Information Available on Base

Los Angeles County is composed of the City of Los Angeles plus 89 communities and more than 80 school districts The Airman & Family Readiness Center can assist you with enrollment procedures, information about magnet schools, South Bay school districts, home schooling resources and private schools. A&FRC also handles all inter- and intra- district transfer for military children.

Ticket Office Relocated to the Club

Tickets for various local attractions and movie theaters are for sale at discounted prices. The Ticket Office relocated to the cashier's office in The Club (Bldg. 270) earlier this year. Outdoor Recreation is still the place to go to rent equipment and sign up for adventure trips; however, discount tickets are no longer sold at Outdoor Adventures.
