LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Today is the day! February 1st marks the start of African American History Month. Established in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Black History Month is the time to celebrate the important contributions and achievements of African Americans throughout our history, including the brave men and women of our United States Air Force and United States Space Force. African Americans share an integral part of the foundation of this country— from its inception to present day defense of our nation’s values, democracy and liberty. It is important to celebrate this community by honoring individuals who have helped to build a better life, including past, present, and future, for all of us.
Over the next coming weeks, Los Angeles Air Force Base will honor members of the African American community by reflecting on moments of Black joy, Black intellect, Black courage and Black leadership. We will celebrate this year’s national theme, “Black Health and Wellness” with a variety of activities spread throughout the month. To participate, check your emails.
