The Space and Missile Systems Center’s chaplains hosted a LA virtual prayer breakfast Feb. 25, 2021.

The opening remarks were presented by Lt. Gen. John F. Thompson, SMC commander, who focused on spreading kindness amidst the global pandemic.

“We must take a step back, take a breath and offer kindness as an alternative solution to aggressive confrontation and anger," Thompson said. "Let us commit to extending kindness to others by taking the time to really listen to them, by expressing gratitude to each other and by embodying our core value of Service before Self.”

Following his remarks, the event included an invocation, a musical performance and speeches from numerous guests consisting of diverse religious backgrounds.

According to SMC’s Chaplain 1st Lt. Robert Henry, organizer for the event, the SMC chapel team believes it is vital for Airmen and Guardians to increase their spiritual fitness during these challenging times.

“It is something that each of us needs to be intentional about because we can’t give to others what we don’t have ourselves,” Henry explained. “With more spiritually resilient Airmen and Guardians at Los Angeles Air Force Base, we will be equipped to fulfill our potential in the Air and Space Force missions.”
