LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE, Calif.—The United States Space Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) recently announced its outstanding military and civilian personnel for 2019.
The First Sergeant of the Year is Master Sgt. Fabio Batista Sanchez, SMC First Sergeant. His accomplishments include advancing the base’s company grade officer course, deliberately developing 750 officers to meet the Chief of Staff of the Air Force’s focus areas. In addition, Batista Sanchez streamlined the adverse action program to cut out four redundancies and facilitate coordination between three base agencies, ultimately save one thousand man-hours per year for base leadership.
What does the achievement of this award mean to you?
“This achievement means a lot to me on different levels,” Batista Sanchez said. “It’s the cherry on top of all the great and rewarding experiences of this job - making things better for our force and being there for our members and their families. It also comes during a difficult time in my life which highlights the work my loved ones, leaders, and teammates have done to help me accomplish this award, especially my grandmother who has shaped me into the person I am today.”
When you think of excellence as it pertains to the SMC mission, what do you think of?
“When I think of excellence as it pertain to the SMC mission, I think of our great SMC leaders and our talented total force who deliver the innovation and war-winning capabilities our nation needs on the ground and in space,” he said.
