LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Space and Missile Systems Center’s Advanced Systems and Development Directorate welcomed a new director at a change of leadership ceremony held at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, July 13.
Col. Timothy Sejba assumed leadership of the directorate from Col. John Anttonen at a ceremony officiated by Lt. Gen. John Thompson, SMC commander and Air Force program executive for space, and attended by family, friends, community leaders and SMC personnel.
“I’ve been fortunate now to command or lead four times over the past eight years,” Sejba said. “Being named a director or commander is a tremendous opportunity that many seek, but few are afforded the opportunity.”
The colonel credited many great mentors, leaders and peers who helped prepare him for leadership opportunities that he’s been given over the course of his career.
Commissioned in 1995 through the Air Force ROTC program at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Col. Sejba’s previous assignment was as the deputy director of SMC’s Military Satellite Communications Systems Directorate, which he held since July 2016. His career has included joint assignments at U.S Strategic Command and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency.
SMC/AD is headquartered at Kirtland AFB with operating locations at Los Angeles AFB, California; Hill AFB, Utah; and Johnson Space Center, Texas. The directorate is composed of four mission divisions and four support divisions. The capabilities of these divisions provide the unique ability to provide technology planning, modeling and simulation, requirements analysis, concept development, small launch and space demonstrations, hosted payloads, ground system architectures, systems engineering, in-house contracting, program control and management operations functions.
