Be part of something BIG! Launch your federal civilian career with the Air Force space program

Space and Missile Systems Center  is the center of technical excellence -- researching, developing, and acquiring future military space systems. Located in the heart of the nation's aerospace industrial center, Los Angeles Air Force Base's Schriever Space Complex is where our military space program begins and where its future is being defined and acquired today!

Implementing the vast majority of the Department of Defense space budget, including launch vehicles, satellites and ground systems...we do the heavy lifting for our national defense in space.

We are a diverse and dedicated team of U.S. Air Force military and civilian personnel with a varied knowledge and skills that it takes to deliver the latest space technologies to our nation.

Our civilian employees receive all the benefits of Federal employment, including opportunities for career advancement, annual cost of living pay raises, within-grade pay increases, numerous training opportunities, substantial health benefits that can be taken into retirement, life insurance, vacation, personal leave time, sick leave, and credit and compensatory time for extra hours worked.

Many of our positions offer flexible hours, alternative work schedules and Mass Transit Benefits for long-distance commuters using the Los Angeles AFB RideShare program.

Benefits of working with SMC

Student Career Experience Program

The Space and Missile Systems Center periodically announces applications for student trainee positions under the Student Career Experience Program. SCEP provides an opportunity for students to gain work experience directly related to their academic or career goals while pursuing their degree at least half-time.

Students are eligible for advanced promotions, health and life insurance, Thrift Savings Plan (similar to a 401K program), as well as vacation and sick time. Employment may continue beyond graduation. SCEP trainees become eligible for permanent employment after successfully completing education and work requirements.
