Los Angeles Air Force Base is home to Space Base Delta 3 (SBD3) the host installation and our Field Command, Space Systems Command (SSC). We are the only active duty military installation in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, located just two miles south of Los Angeles International Airport in El Segundo, Calif.
Space Base Delta 3 includes all of the base support services: 61st Medical Squadron, 61st Civil Engineer and Logistics Squadron, 61st Communication's Squadron, 61st Force Support Squadron, 61st Security Forces Squadron, and 11 Staff Agencies. LA AFB has over 7K personnel assigned, with $1 billion in physical plant assets and has a $61.4 million annual budget.
Our co-located Field Command, SSC, is responsible for developing, acquiring, equipping, fielding, and sustaining lethal and resilient space capabilities for warfighters. As part of fielding, the command is responsible for launch operations, on-orbit checkout, developmental testing, sustainment and maintenance of military satellite constellations and other Department of Defense space systems. With an $15 billion space acquisition budget, SSC has a total of 15k personnel spread across 16 geographically separated units across the country.
