Toys Donated by GPS Wing Benefit Annual Toys for Tots Campaign Published Dec. 18, 2009 By Global Positioning System Wing Space and Missile System Center LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Recently, the Global Positioning System Wing held its annual holiday party and Toys for Tots kick-off charity event at the Gordon Conference Center. The GPS Wing selected the Toys for Tots Foundation because of its pledge to bring the joy of Christmas to America's needy children. Christmas is a time of giving, a time for sharing, and a time for positive inspiration and uplifting spirits. The Toys for Tots program began in 1947, and in 1948 the program was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted the program and expanded it into a nationwide campaign. Along with providing toys, the foundation also strives to send a positive message to motivate children to become responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. The generous gifts collected from the wing were presented to the Marine Corps 3rd Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, located in Bell, Calif. On behalf of the wing, Col. David Madden, GPS Wing commander, received a Certificate of Appreciation for the wing's continued support to Toys for Tots from the Marines who attended the party . Wing leadership reported that the event was a huge success. "Every child deserves to experience the joy of Christmas, and thanks to men and women of the Los Angeles Air Force Base numerous toys were collected for the Toys for Tots foundation. Be safe during the holiday seasons and get plenty of rest as we prepare to tackle yet another successful year in GPS," said. Col. Madden.
