Connecting with other cultures on Diversity Day

Whether we visit another city, state, or country, diversity is what makes the world unique and fascinating. Each year we recognize World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, or Diversity Day, on May 21. This day is set aside to urge every person to do their part in building the bridge between cultures. The United Nations first declared May 21 World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development in 2002. In 2005, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization encouraged the world to develop empathy for the tenets of cultural diversity to achieve four goals.
