USSTRATCOM commander visits SMC
U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney (center right), U.S. Strategic Command commander, stands with U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Samuel A. Greaves (center), Space and Missile Systems Center commander and Air Force program executive officer for space and other USSTRATCOM and SMC personnel in front of the Armillary (aka the 'Space Motif'), a landmark within SMC's Schriever Space Complex at Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, Calif., Jan. 20, 2016. SMC, part of the Air Force Space Command, is responsible for the research, development, acquisition on-orbit testing and sustainment of military space and missile systems. Air Force Space Command is a service component of USSTRATCOM. Haney visited SMC to gain a better understanding of the command and its missions. One of nine Department of Defense unified combatant commands, USSTRATCOM has global strategic missions, assigned through the Unified Command Plan, which include strategic deterrence; space operations; cyberspace operations; joint electronic warfare; missile defense; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; combating weapons of mass destruction; and analysis and targeting.
