Base-Wide Yard Sale The base-wide yard sale will be held on the Fort MacArthur Parade Grounds from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 2. Here's an opportunity to get rid of surplus household items and give shoppers a chance to pick up some bargains. Military I.D. cardholders and dependents will be selling their unneeded household goods. The sale will be open to anyone with valid photo I.D.s. For further information, contact Amy Toy at baseyardsale@gmail.com. Fitness Assessments Available During May at the Base Fitness Center Do you know what your fitness level might be? If you've got 30 - 45 minutes to spare, come by the base fitness center and you'll find out. Members of the staff will test your strength, flexibility, blood pressure, body composition and cardiovascular fitness. Call the center at (310) 653-6771 and make your appointment. Track Rules Must be Followed The new Los Angeles Air Force Base .5-mile running track is now open. All personnel are reminded to heed the follow rules. 1. WARFIT testing takes precedence over all others on the track. 2. The track is for exercise purposes only (running and walking). 3. No bikes, skates, strollers or other wheeled implements are allowed on the track. 4. No hard-soled shoes are allowed on the running track. This includes boots, high heels, dress shoes or other shoes with heels. 5. No pets allowed on the track at any time. 6. Walkers must use the outer perimeter. 7. Track direction will be one-way in a counter-clockwise direction at all times. Base Fund Raising Needs Approval First Any private organization or unofficial activity organizational party interested in holding a fundraiser in any Los Angeles Air force Base facility must be approved by 61 MSG/CC through 61 MSG/SVF prior to advertising the event. In addition, no PO or UA my sell or serve alcoholic beverages on the base. Contact the 61st Services at 310-653-5157 to obtain the most current fundraiser and alcohol guidance and request form. Scholarships Available for Family Members For the eleventh year, Air Force Clubs will provide $25,000 in scholarships that are sponsored in part by Chase Bank and the Coca-Cola Company. Applicants for the six scholarships must have been accepted by or are enrolled in an accredited college or university for the fall term or already be part or full-time students. Student enrollment status may involve either undergraduate or graduate curriculum. Only club members and their family members are eligible to participate. This includes the member's spouse, son, daughter, stepson or stepdaughter. Grandchildren are also eligible if they are dependents of the club member. Award of scholarship money is based on a written essay of no more than 500 words around the theme of "Why is air superiority critical today?" Deadline for submitting essays to the 61 MSG Services' Director is June 15, 2007. The final scholarship awards for the upcoming school year are announced each October.
