Here's the latest news of interest to the LAAFB community.

Veterans Day Observance to be Held at Aerospace

The Aerospace Corporation is hosting a Veterans Day observance Nov. 8 on Paulikas Mall. All Los Angeles AFB personnel are invited to attend the program starting at 11:15 a.m. The 562nd Air Force Band will perform. The Los Angeles AFB Honor Guard and LAAFB Chaplain, Lt. Col. John Kelly, will also participate in the program. Aerospace will be offering a hot dog lunch for $2 to the first 200 customers and free popcorn to the first 200 requesters.

Fall Festival Coming

A fall festival sponsored by Services will be held, Oct. 27 on Fort MacArthur. Activities are designed for all ages, and include pony rides, petting zoo, train rides, costume contest, pumpkin patch, bouncy castles, live music, free food, and more. The event begins at 11:00 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.

Flag Football Finals

The Intramural Flag Football League's finals will be held, Oct 25. Cheer on your favorite teams as they battle for victory. Games begin at 4:30 p.m. and are played in the grassy field between the Fitness Center and Clinic.

LAAFB Toastmasters Club Meetings Held

The club meets every Wednesday, noon to 1 p.m. That's closer than "freeway close," and you can bring your lunch. We still have room for a few more success-oriented individuals. Is that you? Fort Mac Community Center Closed for Renovations

The Community Center was closed on Sunday, Sept. 2 in order to conduct major renovations. It will reopen on Nov. 12. During the upgrades there will be no access to the facility with the exception of selected scheduled events. The computer room and the ticket window will be closed. Tickets may still be purchased at the El Segundo Club location.

Airman's Attic Now Open

The Attic is located in Bldg. 37 on Fort MacArthur. New operating hours are Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6 to 8 pm. There are no weekend hours. For more information, call (310) 653-6767 or (310) 221-0909.

Local School Information Available on Base

Los Angeles County is composed of the City of Los Angeles plus 89 communities and more than 80 school districts The Airman & Family Readiness Center can assist you with enrollment procedures, information about magnet schools, South Bay school districts, home schooling resources and private schools. A&FRC also handles all inter- and intra- district transfer for military children.

Airman & Family Readiness Center Holds Classes

All Classes/Workshops are held in the A&FRC Classroom, Bldg. 272, and Rm. C1-235. To register for classes, call (310) 653-5428.

Managing Your Move, Nov. 8, 8:30 to 10 a.m.
For any PCS move, planning is crucial to your sanity. Briefings will be provided by the Clinic, Traffic Management, Legal, and Military Finance. Civilians welcome.

Group Pre-Separation Class, Oct. 29, Nov. 5 and 19 1 to 2 p.m.
The class is mandatory for all personnel retiring/separating from the military. It should be taken at least 90 days before your date of retiring/separating or signing up for the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Class.

Transition Assistance Program, Nov. 13-17, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is dedicated to equipping separating and retiring military personnel for reentry to private sector. The program interfaces with State of California, Department of Veterans Affairs and Disabled American Veterans. Bring your medical records. Dress: Casual Business.

Ticket Office Relocated to the Club

Discounted tickets are now on sale for Knott's Berry Farm and Universal Studios Hollywood's Halloween events. Tickets for various local attractions and movie theaters are also for sale at discounted prices. The Ticket Office relocated to the cashier's office in The Club (Bldg. 270) earlier this year. Outdoor Recreation is still the place to go to rent equipment and sign up for adventure trips; however, discount tickets are no longer sold at Outdoor Adventures.
