Outstanding Students Recognized at LAAFB Academic Recognition Ceremony Published May 21, 2009 By Melanie Arvonio Airman & Family Readiness Center LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Thirteen students were recognized at Los Angeles Air Force Base's Academic Recognition Program Ceremony held at the Fort MacArthur Community Center, May 13. The ceremony was hosted by the LAAFB School Liaison Officer, Col. Theresa Katein, with support of the Airman & Family Readiness Center. Each student received a certificate of achievement, an AAFES "You Made the Grade" coupon booklet, a $10 gift card to Borders Book Store and a $25 gif certificate for the Commissary. The objective of the Academic Recognition Program is to recognize children of active duty military families in grades 1-12 for their outstanding scholastic achievements. Children of active duty military families (all branches, including activated Guard and Reserve) in grades 1-12 who meet the specified requirements are eligible to apply. Students may enter in one or both categories each term - Outstanding Grade Point Average and Outstanding Improvement. The Outstanding Grade Point Average category is for students with a 3.5 GPA or above during the term. The Outstanding Improvement category is for students demonstrating academic improvement of at least an increase of .5 in the overall GPA from the previous term. The application process is simple and applications may be submitted after each trimester or semester.
