CDC visit to Dental Clinic at LA AFB

Children from the Child Development Center visited the Dental Clinic during Month of the Military Child, April 2024. Dr. Heather Baughman showed the children all about getting a dental exam, including sitting and laying back in the treatment chair, learning about the suction, and the air and water syringe, in hopes to encourage routine dental visits and curb the fear that can arise with visiting the dentist. Children participate in the Teddy Bear clinic during Month of the Military Child

Members from the 61st Medical Squadron visited the Child Development Center, to host a Teddy Bear Clinic in observance of Month of the Military Child, April 2024. Children were instructed to bring their favorite, doll, stuffed animal or toy from home to go through different stations learning what it is like to visit the doctor. A member from the 61st Civil Engineer and Logistics Squadron visited the Child Development Center, to help children plant flowers in front of the building in recognition of Earth Day and Month of the Military Child, April 2024. Guardian Resilience Team Shield

Recently, the U.S. Space Force created a new Holistic Health Approach for Guardians, standing up Guardian Resilience Teams at all USSF bases. The current team at Los Angeles Air Force Base consists of Dr. Paul Stearns, Fitness Information Manager and Team Lead for the GRT, Space Base Delta 3 and Coach John Hofman, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, GRT, SBD 3. This new team has hit the ground running and due to the smaller size of the installation were allowed to help all members of LAAFB, including Airmen, Guardians, Civilians and Contractors, with their holistic health needs.

Tech Sgt.Taylor Moore participates in new MetaCheck testing offered by the GRT

Tech Sgt. Taylor Moore, Commanders Action Group member, Space Base Delta 3, takes part in the new MetaCheck test provided by the Guardian Resiliency Team at Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, Calif., April 25, 2024. The MetaCheck is a metabolic analyzer that provides an accurate, professional metabolic rate measurement, through directly measuring the concentration of oxygen a person breathes out which measures how many calories your body burns at rest and when exercising. The 61st Security Forces Squadron hosted the LA Police Department and Orange County Sheriff SWAT teams for a joint exercise on April 17, 2024, at Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, California. This training was the first of its kind in over ten years to take place at the installation. A perfect storm of events led to this unique and controlled training environment for the first responders, with the dorms currently under renovation and the divestiture and subsequent closing of lodging last year. The 61st Security Forces Squadron hosted the LA Police Department and Orange County Sheriff SWAT teams for a joint exercise on April 17, 2024, at Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, California. During the training, SWAT teams utilized blanks, simulated ammunition, and flashbangs, providing a more realistic training experience. A call for base volunteers came out early in the week to act as injured bystanders, hostages, and oppositional forces (OPFOR). (U.S. Space Force photo by Jose Hernandez).

May 2024 Knight of the Month

Mr. Jacques Humphrey is the SBD 3 Knight of the Month for May 2024. He serves as a computer information specialist with the 61st Force Support Squadron at LA AFB. The Knight of the Month program recognizes outstanding members of individual units each month. Humphrey's job is important to the mission at LAAFB because I’m responsible for ensuring our tech systems are up and running for the classrooms, testing centers, CDC, MPF, M&FRC, thus facilitating the delivery of unique community services and capabilities to LAAFB.
