Guam Cadets Tour Space Systems Command as part of SoCal Visit

Space System Command, Deputy Director of STEM, Jonathan Stroud, engages with U.S. Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets from John F. Kennedy High School in Tamuning, Guam, during a recent visit to Space Systems Command on Wednesday, April 27. The cadets, several of whom had never left Guam before, arrived in California on Monday in preparation for Saturday’s Golden Bear West Coast National Drill Meet competition in Torrance.

Alcohol Awareness Month occurs each April in part because of how easily problems associated with alcohol use can occur anytime and anywhere alcohol is consumed. Overall, alcohol use is up since the Covid-19 impact and restrictions began. The bad effects are less visible than the good and can creep up on the unsuspecting person. When used improperly, alcohol can contribute to poor decision-making, negative physical health effects, negative mental/neurological health effects and damage to personal and professional roles and relationships. Los Angeles Air Force Base Careers Move Fast Forward with Speed Mentoring

CMSgt. Willie H. Frazier II, Space Systems Command, Senior Enlisted Leader, discusses his thoughts on shaping your career to a mentee. More than 120 people virtually participated in the Los Angeles Air Force Base speed mentoring event held earlier this month. The Chief of Space Operations, General Jay Raymond, provided opening remarks. He emphasized the benefits of mentorship and that it needs to be repeatable and not a one-time thing. Participants learned cultivating trust is important as well as not having just one mentor. Mentoring is not some big, formal process; it is nothing more than routine conversation about your path forward. Obtain many points of view as you shape your career and as you grow in your skillset, provide mentorship to others. The event was a success due to the planning of the Company Grade Officers Council, Civilian Leadership Development Council and the Commander’s Action Group.

Los Angeles Air Force Base is calling up-and-coming Artists to Enter the 2022 Air Force Art Contest

If you’re a pen and ink Picasso, mixed media Manet, watercolor Warhol or a graphite Gauguin, you can show off your creative artistry in the Air Force Art Contest. Artists may submit up to two, digital photographs of their two-dimensional (2D) painting or drawing, in one of five categories, for judging. The subject of the artwork is at the discretion of the artist but must comply with the official rules of the contest HERE. As part of the Air Force’s Arts and Crafts Program, managed by the Air Force Services Center, the contest is open to all authorized patrons of Department of the Air Force morale, welfare and recreation programs in the five categories below:

Los Angeles AFB Invited to Super Bowl Gridiron Celebrity Hoops Basketball Game

Los Angeles Air Force Base members were invited to the Super Bowl Gridiron Celebrity Hoops basketball game on Feb. 11 at the Edward R. Roybal Learning Center in Downtown LA. The “Salute to Service” Appreciation day honored all branch of service and their families. At the Super Bowl LVI Charity weekend experience, Airmen posed with Leon “RoccStar” Youngblood Jr. a music producer, songwriter, recording artist and rapper at the basketball game.
