SV-5D Lifting Body Replica
A replica of a SV-5D lifting body was recently installed in front of Bldg. 270. Originally developed for SMC’s predecessor the Space and Missile Systems Organization’s Project Prime, the lifting body was the first vehicle to maneuver on reentry from space. Information gathered from this program aided in the development of future Air Force and NASA lifting body vehicles including NASA’s Space Shuttle. The replica was presented to SAMSO in 1974 by the Junior Officers Council. (Photo by Lou Hernandez)
