DSP 40th Anniversary

Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin (pictured far right) presents a proclamation to Col. Scott Larrimore, Space Based Infrared Systems Wing, and John Kravec, Northrop Grumman Space Systems Division DSP program manager, at the Redondo Beach City Council meeting, Oct. 19. The proclamation recognized the 40th Anniversary of the Defense Support Program satellites, which were built locally in Redondo Beach. DSP satellites use infrared sensors to detect heat from missile and booster plumes against the Earth's background. The23rd and last DSP satellite was launched in December 2007. (Photo by Joe Juarez)
