Los Angeles Air Force Base will host its first Financial Road Show in the Gordon Conference Center, Feb. 26. The offices of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP), in conjunction with the Airman and Family Readiness Center, are bringing a full range of local, state and federal resources to assist military personnel and their families, retirees and DoD civilian employees in dealing with the impacts of today's economy.

Financial Road Shows are designed to help military personnel and their families, retirees and DoD civilian employees hear from subject matter experts -- financial counselors and educators -- in such areas as budgets and spending plans, credit management, debt elimination, housing loans and foreclosures, savings and investments, estate and retirement planning.

"This is the first time we've ever tried doing something like this," said Col. Anita Latin, 61st Air Base Wing commander. "We know the pressures and financial challenges our outstanding DoD personnel are facing. This event is designed to help them reduce stress and pave the way to better financial health. Even in these tough economic times, we know we can help each other build wealth, not debt."

The event will feature financial experts Jordan Goodman and John Sileo, who, along with others, will provide information about Identity Theft, Truths and Myths of Credit Reports, Developing a Spending Plan That Will Keep You on Track, Take Complete Control of Your Finances - Avoid Drowning in Debt, Strategies for Protecting Against Foreclosure, and Making Your Retirement a Reality. Certified Personal Financial, HUD, and Military Family Life counselors will also be on site to answer questions and provide counseling services on-demand and by appointment at the conclusion of the event. Children are welcome to attend. Activities are planned that are geared  specifically towards them.

All event workshops and counseling services are free. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. Military personnel and their families, retirees and DoD civilian employees are encouraged to pre-register for the Road Show online at http://www.militaryhomefront.dod.mil/service/conference. All those who register by Feb. 20 will be entered to win a free digital photo frame that will be given away at the event (must be present to win). Registration is also available the day of the event, starting at 8 a.m.
