Base Volunteers Recognized for Their Service

More than 100 people attended the annual Volunteer Recognition Celebration and Reception in the Gordon Conference Center, May 14. The ceremony honored the 417 base volunteers from the Airman & Family Readiness Center, the Airman's Attic, the Clinic; the Catholic and Protestant Chapels; the Company Grade Officers Association; the Los Angeles Air Force Spouse Club; the Spouse Club Thrift Store; Retiree Activities; Tax Center; Boy Scouts; the Top Three; Rising Six; Sexual Assault Prevention and Response; and the Youth Center.

There were four nominees for the Volunteer Excellence Award: Tracy L. Brown, Joseph L. Chizmadia, Angel Johnson, and Alta Scroggins. The Angel Award nominees were SrA Melody D. Braden, Tech Sgt. Nancy L. Connell, Maj Jennifer A. Draper, Tracy Learned Capt. Jim Manna, Capt. Adrienne Owens, LAAFB Protestant and Catholic Chapel Communities, William Redican, SBIRS OL-1Team, and Joe and Lisa Vanderpoorten and family. The staff of the Retiree Activities Office received the Retiree Volunteer of the Year Award.

SMC Commander Lt. Gen. John T. Sheridan congratulated the winners and thanked all the volunteers for their unselfish service.
