Jimmy Stewart Stamp Unveiled

Jimmy Stewart’s children, and actor and close family friend, Robert Wagner unveil a new US Postal Service stamp honoring late actor Jimmy Stewart, Aug. 17. Lt. Col. Ivan Thompson, SMC, and an Honor Guard from March Air Reserve Base represented the Air Force at the ceremony held at Universal Studios Hollywood. Stewart, who died in 1997, served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 20 missions over Germany as a B-24 squadron commander. He later served in the Air Force Reserve – achieving the rank of brigadier general. Recently, a technology center at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. was dedicated as the Brig. Gen. James Stewart Theater in honor of his service and his efforts to promote Air Force heritage and moral programs to benefit future generations of Airmen. (Photo by Joe Juarez)
