Children from the Child Development Center circles Ben Wolf from the Kiowa Indian Tribe as he beats his drum and chants a native song, Nov. 15. Mr. Wolf visited the center for two days and spent time with the children introducing them to Indian folklore, dances and helped with crafts. The base celebrated Native American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month along with The Aerospace Corporation in order to bring awareness to the many contributions by the Native Americans throughout history. Activities included Indian arts, crafts and books display, a talk about growing up on a reservation by one of SMC’s personnel, base-wide slide presentation of notable American Indians, a seminar on ancestry and a special Navajo taco meal served at the Club.
